Vernon Arthur Kranau
January 8, 1929 – October 15, 2025
Vernon Arthur Kranau, age 96, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 15, 2025.
Vernon was born on January 8, 1929, and grew up on the family farm near Blue Hill, Nebraska. The values of hard work, humility, and service to others took root there and guided him throughout his life.
From October 31, 1951, to October 28, 1953, Vernon proudly served his country in the Korean War. After returning home, he continued to work in agriculture—driving grain trucks, building grain elevators, and contributing to the farming community he loved.
Later, Vernon attended barber college and apprenticed at a barber shop in Central City, where he met the love of his life, Gayle Fossberg. They were married on November 27, 1955, and shared 69 years of marriage rooted in faith, devotion, and partnership.
Vernon led by quiet example, teaching his children that the best way to love others was through action. When someone in the community needed help, they called Vernon—and he came, often bringing his family along to lend a hand.
A man of deep faith, Vernon served as an elder in his church for many years. His steadfast trust in God and gentle spirit left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Vernon is survived by his children: Victor (Diana) Kranau, Randall (Billie) Kranau, Brian (Cheryl) Kranau, Carolyn (Chris) Loghry, and Julie Kranau. He was a proud grandfather to 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, who were his greatest earthly joy.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gayle; parents, Gus and Anna Kranau; brother Marvin Kranau; sister and brother-in-law, Eunice (Alvin) Wescoat.
Vernon's life was a testimony to faithfulness—to God, to family, and to service. His legacy will live on in the lives of those he loved and served so well.
"Well done, good and faithful servant... enter into the joy of your Lord." — Matthew 25:23
